Pilates In Place: What Does Your 'Quarantine Pilates Practice' Say About You?

A completely (un)scientific and slightly (very) generalized personality prediction, according to how you continued your Pilates practice while in quarantine.

1.You didn’t. Like, you literally did no Pilates.

Your best friend dragged you to every Pilates class you ever went to. Before class, you have been known to ask the teacher, “Wanna just go get coffee?” People often shush you in class, to which you roll your eyes. Although you barely workout and are borderline disruptive, the teacher adores you because of your winning personality. Your favorite Pilates exercise is the Child’s Pose after an extension. (It doesn’t matter to you that that’s not a Pilates exercise).

2. You DID Instagram Live workouts… like, a lot of them.

You’re a group class kind of person. You’re not picky about the teacher, as long as you get to move your body. You love trying different classes and styles. You detest the Pilates police, and never met a reformer class you didn’t like. Jump board is your jam.

3. You watched Instagram live workouts from bed, with your morning coffee.

You fell in love with Pilates when you learned that you start laying down. You are a “quality over quantity” kind of person. You focus on form and love the slow, controlled nature of the practice. You have a slightly lazy side, and have been known to ask “Can we just stretch today?” before class. (Yes, there’s a shirt for that.) Feet In Straps is your favorite Pilates exercise. (Also, a shirt)

4. You Took remote privates with your current instructor.

You are loyal and goal-oriented. You are focused and regimented, take care of your body and understand the importance of consistent movement. You are a “private Pilates” kind of person… none of that group class nonsense for you. You are all about results. You are a form person. You “work deep” and “squeeze the juice” out of every exercise. You have a regular place in the schedule and never miss a class. You once had a meltdown when someone else was accidentally placed in your time slot. Your favorite Pilates exercise is the one that will get you to the next level.

5. You Took remote privates with every Pilates “master” you have ever wanted to work with.

You are intense AF and sometimes scare people. You have been known to randomly yell “Pilates is a workout!” in the middle of a class while sweating like a monster. You aspire to master Squirrel and won’t stop until you get there.

6. You Took remote Pilates workshops with All Your Favorite teachers.

You’re curious and insightful. You are utterly blown away by the method’s (you like to use the word “method” in place of “Pilates”) simultaneous complexity and simplicity. You love a good “Aha!” moment … like, you’re addicted. You have been known to (annoyingly) preach about how, “That is not (Pilates exercise). Thiiiiiiis is (Pilates exercise).” You love to say, “That’s not a thing.” Your favorite Pilates exercise is the one you just relearned and felt in a whole new way.
